Two sets of pair cards to help children learn how to read one and four quadrant coordinates grids. They can be used in a variety of ways as a whole class, in pairs, or individually. We find them very effective a exit cards or even a fun extension activity for those early finishers.
Here are two ways that we have used them successfully:
Game 1: Give each of the children 1 card, get them to walk around and find the other person with the matching card. How quickly can they do it?
Game 2: In pairs, put all of the cards face down on the table. Take it in turns turning over two cards to try and find a matching pair. The person with the most pairs at the end is the winner.

Leaf sorting is a fun activity where your class will go outside to collect some leaves before sorting them into groups according to their properties. It’s a good way to introduce your class to some simple data handling as well as developing their skills to sort items into groups by looking closely at their features and shape. Using natural resources outside is a great way to engage your early counters. This outdoor math resource is designed to get students taking part in a fun and physical activity while becoming efficient counters in real world situations with number 1 1 - 20. They will use the visual task cards to collect a handful of a natural resource, count how many they’ve collected, and record it on the sheet.
These cards can be laminated and written on with board makers so they can be used time and time again. This is a great activity for students to do either in pairs or individually.
Extension: Once the students have collected and counted their natural objects, they can use these objects (and more if needed), to create the number on the floor.
